World Record by 15-Year-Old Turkish Chess Player Yağız Kaan!
Turkish chess player, 15-year-old national grandmaster Yağız Kaan Erdoğmuş, completed the Olympiad in Semerkant undefeated and broke the world record by reaching 2.731 Elo.
Turkey's young grandmaster Yağız Kaan Erdoğmuş faced world number three Fabiano Caruana in the final round of the 46th FIDE Chess Olympiad held in Semarkand, Uzbekistan. The national player left the match with a draw against his strong opponent.
Finished the Olympiad undefeated.
At 15, Erdoğmuş completed the tournament with 8 points out of 10. While the young grandmaster remained undefeated throughout the event, he also raised his Elo rating to 2,731 with the results he achieved.
Wei Yi's record left behind.
Erdoğmuş's 2,731 Elo surpassed the 2,721 record held by Chinese grandmaster Wei Yi since 2015. Thus the national athlete became the new holder of the highest Elo rating achieved by a player at 15 in chess history.
Another record at a young age.
Yağız Kaan Erdoğmuş has been gaining attention among young players in world chess with his rising Elo rating. The young athlete had become the youngest player to reach this level by surpassing the 2,700 Elo threshold in April 2026.
