The 43‑year‑old Jessica Vincent, who lives in Virginia in the United States, bought the glass vase that caught her eye for only $3.99 while shopping at a second‑hand goods store near Richmond in June 2023.

Vincent, who had seen the vase as an ordinary item to use decoratively at home, later learned its true value. Investigations revealed that the cheaply purchased vase bore the signature of the world‑renowned Italian architect and designer Carlo Scarpa.

The Two Letters Under the Vase Revealed the Secret

The bottle‑shaped glass vase featured swirling patterns in sea‑green and amethyst‑purple hues that drew attention. But the real clue was the words "Murano" and "Italia" on the vase’s base.

Experts determined that the piece belonged to the Pennellate collection prepared by Carlo Scarpa in 1942.

Examples of the collection that survive to this day are known to be extremely rare, given the difficulty of its production. This rarity has significantly increased the vase’s value.

Sold for $107,000 at an open auction.

A historic vase drew significant interest at an open auction held on December 13, 2023. An anonymous European collector paid $107,100 (approximately 5 million 287 thousand TL) for the piece.

After interruptions in the open auction, approximately $83,500 passed into Jessica Vincent's hands.

Vincent, who felt great joy over an unexpected gain, stated he would use a significant portion of the money he acquired to renovate the heating and ventilation systems of the old farmhouse he purchased.

Vincent also noted that he hoped the rare piece would be exhibited in a museum in the future.
