29-Year-Old Young Man Went With a Constipation Complaint: His Life Changed in an Instant

The health issue that began as an ordinary constipation complaint for 29‑year‑old Josh Vitner‑Jackson, who lives in the United States, turned into a far more serious picture after investigations. It was determined that the young man's cancer, which was found to have a tumor the size of a golf ball in his colon, had spread to his lungs in later stages.

Initially, he was sent home with a laxative.

Josh Vitner‑Jackson, who is interested in endurance sports, initially attributed his constipation problem to his diet and insufficient fiber intake. When his complaints persisted, the young man who sought a doctor was advised to watch his diet and use a laxative.

However, Josh's condition worsened in a short time. After his abdominal pain and bloating became unbearable, he returned to a medical facility. This time, detailed examinations revealed that the problem was far more serious than constipation.

Doctors found a tumor the size of a golf ball in Josh's colon.

A 40‑centimeter piece of tissue was removed from his colon.

During an emergency operation, approximately 40 centimetre of tissue and 15 lymph nodes were removed from Josh's intestine. Cancer cells were found in 7 of the examined lymph nodes.

Following that, the young man began a 12‑session intensive chemotherapy regimen. The period that offered hope to Josh, who received news in April 2021 that the disease had regressed, did not last long.

The Cause of the Lung Lesions Was Later Understood

During routine checks in 2022, some lesions were detected in Josh's lungs. Initially, it was thought that these lesions could be effects that appeared after Covid‑19.

However, subsequent investigations revealed that the lesions were caused by the spread of colon cancer to the lungs. It was determined that the disease had progressed to stage 4.

Josh's respiratory system was increasingly affected over time. The young man began using a portable oxygen device and a wheelchair. He also received prolonged hospital treatment due to lung infections and allergic reactions to certain medications.

It Feels Like Breathing Through a Pipette

Josh, who likened his breathing difficulty to "breathing through a pipette", said that his disease was stable in his latest check-ups. The young man, who is continuing treatment, is also trying to obtain support from a fundraising campaign launched to cover the costs of experimental treatments.

Josh, who decided to use his difficult experience to help other patients, founded a charity called "Chat Cancer" based on the loneliness he felt during his chemotherapy period.

Through the organization, Josh, who works to provide support so that especially young cancer patients do not feel alone, continues to share his own struggle to give hope to people going through similar processes.
