In Minneapolis, Minnesota, a driver ran a red light, collided with a light‑rail vehicle, and then fled the scene. Metro Transit police launched an investigation to locate the fleeing driver. The accident occurred at 14.00 on Saturday at the intersection of South Fifth Street and Portland Avenue in downtown Minneapolis. Police said the driver struck the moving light‑rail after running the red light.
Driver Fled
It was reported that the train was not carrying passengers at the time of the crash. According to Metro Transit officials, the vehicle was out of service and only the operator was on board. The operator was reported not to have been injured in the accident. The driver of the car that struck the tram fled the area instead of stopping after the crash. Metro Transit police are conducting an investigation to identify the driver whose identity has not yet been released.
Police Search for Driver
The accident caused a brief disruption on the light‑rail line. After police crews cleared the tracks in about 30 minutes, train services were said to have returned to normal.
Metro Transit police said the investigation into the incident is ongoing. Officials are continuing their efforts to locate the fleeing driver after the event.
