4.85 million boxes of eye drops recalled in the United States
The FDA recalled 4.85 million boxes of eye drops that could not be guaranteed sterile. Here are the affected brands and what consumers should check.

In the United States, millions of boxes of eye drops were pulled from the market because it could not be guaranteed that sterile conditions were maintained during production. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) classified the recall of approximately 4,848,342 boxes of product manufactured by K.C. Pharmaceuticals as Class II on October 5, 2026.
Brands sold at chains such as Walgreens, Walmart, and Target are affected.
The recall includes some eye drops sold at major retail chains such as Walgreens, Walmart, Target, H‑E‑B, and Kroger. Certain products from brands like Leader, Equate, Good Sense, Best Choice, and Up & Up are also on the list. However, not all eye drops sold in these stores are subject to the recall.

What Does the FDA's Class II Classification Mean?
The recall launched in September 2026 was carried out because there was insufficient assurance that the products were sterile. The FDA's Class II classification indicates that product use could lead to health problems that are temporary or correctable with medical intervention, while the likelihood of serious outcomes is low.
Pay attention to this detail when checking your at‑home eye drops.
It is not enough for consumers to look only at the product’s brand. In addition to the batch number marked as LOT on the box, the product’s UPC or NDC code and expiration date should also be compared with recall records. Only products of the same brand that have specific batch numbers may be covered.
What should users of recalled products do?
Check the FDA’s official recall records. If the brand, product code, and batch number of the product in your possession match the listed information, stop using it and contact the store where you purchased it. If you experience eye pain, discharge, discomfort, or changes in vision after using the product, consult a health professional.
