In the Staten Island area of New York, Thomas Fahmy collapsed to the ground when struck by lightning while walking near Windsor Road on Todt Hill Road last Thursday.
The incident, which occurred while Fahmy was about 4.5 to 7.5 meters from his vehicle, was recorded second by second by a nearby security camera. The footage shows Fahmy falling to the ground instantly after the lightning strike.
"It was a very intense burning sensation."
Describing the moments he experienced, Fahmy said he felt a strong electric current coursing through his body during the lightning strike.
Fahmy,"It was a very intense burning sensation. I had tingling, numbness, pain, and severe pain in both of my legs."He used his words.
Despite severe pain, Fahmy, who stated he did not lose consciousness, managed to stand up immediately after the incident.
He walked to a nearby house to seek help.
Security camera footage also shows Fahmy standing up after lying on the ground for a while and walking toward a nearby house to call for help.
Despite the lightning strike, Fahmy did not suffer any visible burns or serious injuries on his body. However, he was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
Fahmy, who was monitored overnight at Northwell Staten Island Üniversitesi Hastanesi, was discharged the next day after the checks.
The incident again highlighted how sudden and dangerous a lightning strike can be, and Fahmy's request for help while remaining conscious after being struck drew attention.
