In the United States, poll results began to firm up ahead of the congressional midterm elections scheduled for November 3. The contests will cover all 435 seats of the House of Representatives and 35 seats of the 100‑member Senate.

According to nationwide and state‑level polls compiled by the RealClearPolitics platform, it was indicated that Democrats would win 46 Senate seats and Republicans 46. The competition in the remaining eight states was recorded as a dead heat.

Six of the eight pivotal seats are viewed as leaning Republican, while two lean Democratic. If Republicans win four of those states, a 50‑50 split in the Senate could result. In such a scenario, Vice President JD Vance’s tie‑breaking vote could give the Republicans a majority.

In the House of Representatives, Democrats are ahead.

Polls in the House of Representatives show Democrats pulling ahead. To secure a majority, 218 seats are needed.

Current projections have Republicans winning 186 seats and Democrats 227. The race for the 22 seats that remain contested between the two parties is ongoing.

The current polling snapshot indicates that the Democrats are in a favorable position to take the majority in the House of Representatives.

What is the balance in the current Congress?

In the current structure of the U.S. Congress, the Senate has 53 Republican seats and 45 Democratic seats. Both independent senators generally align with the Democrats.

In the House of Representatives, Republicans hold 218 seats and Democrats 214. One seat belongs to an independent representative, while two seats remain vacant.

The November 3 election is seen as having the potential to shift the balance of power in both chambers of Congress. In particular, the race in the House of Representatives and the outcomes in key Senate states will determine the direction of U.S. politics after the election.
