School Trip Ends in Tragedy in the USA: Ahmed and the Teacher Died
During a school trip held at Lake Macbride State Park in Iowa, USA, a 10‑year‑old student and his teacher who entered the water lost their lives.
Two people lost their lives during a school trip organized in Iowa by the U.S. The incident occurred around Lake Macbride State Park and the nearby Coralville Reservoir (Coralville Gölü) in Iowa. The Johnson County Sheriff's Office dispatched a team to the area on Tuesday at about 12:10 after receiving a report that people were in the water. About 30 minutes later, a teacher who was pulled from the water died at the scene. The deceased was 24‑year‑old Hannah Jorgensen. It was noted that Jorgensen, who lives in Tiffin, was a fifth‑grade teacher at Borlaug Elementary School.
Searches Conducted for Missing Student
After the incident, teams conducted search operations until the evening to find a 10‑year‑old student. The nighttime search was paused and resumed on Wednesday, and the child was pulled from the water in the afternoon. It was announced that the student was Sudanese‑American Ahmed Osman, who lives in Iowa City.
The Iowa City Community School District stated that the tragic incident occurred during the "School of the Wild" trip organized for fifth‑grade students at Borlaug Elementary School. The trip was taking place at Macbride Nature Recreation Area.
Why Did the Teacher Jump Into the Water?
Officials have not yet released details on how the incident that led to the teacher's and student's deaths unfolded. The Johnson County Sheriff's Office is continuing its investigation. However, posts on social media claim that the teacher, in a brave act to rescue her student, jumped into the water and lost her life as a result.
In a statement issued by the school district, it was noted that Jorgensen and Osman hold an important place in the school community, and that support would be provided to their families, friends, teachers, and students.
Search Operations Concluded
With the student who was missing in the first phase being found, the search operations in Lake Macbride ended with the discovery of the lifeless bodies of two people. The investigation conducted by officials to determine the details of the incident is ongoing.
