ABD is spreading a new lifestyle model: personal farming areas will be established next to homes.
The Agrihood model, which brings a different approach to housing projects in ABD, is gaining interest. These settlements, designed with agricultural lands, fruit orchards, and shared production areas, aim for residents to grow their own food. In the Armistead Agrihood project in Tennessee, housing construction is planned to start in 2028.

A new residential model aimed at changing the traditional neighborhood concept in the United States is coming to the fore. The Agrihood, formed from the English words 'agriculture' meaning farming and 'neighborhood' meaning community, brings together residential life with agricultural production.
In this model, houses are not designed solely as dwellings. Vegetable gardens, fruit trees, farms, and shared production areas are also incorporated into the settlement plan.
The Armistead Agrihood project, developed in the city of Franklin, Tennessee, is among the most striking examples of this approach.
Residential and Agricultural Areas Are Planned Together
In Agrihood projects, a significant portion of the land is intended to be set aside for agricultural activities and natural life rather than for development.
In the Armistead project, gardens for vegetable cultivation, fruit orchards, animal grazing areas, and agricultural spaces that neighborhood residents can use together will be established.
Thus the settlement will be transformed from merely a housing project where houses are lined up into a living space where production activities are also carried out.
Residents will be able to grow their own vegetables and fruits.
One of the model's core objectives is to enable people to participate directly in food production.
In Armistead, it is planned to have not only shared farming areas but also personal gardens. Thus homeowners will be able to grow vegetables and fruit in their allotted spaces and participate in communal farming activities.
The project also aims to promote organic production methods and provide residents with training in farming.
Target for residential construction: 2028
In Armistead Agrihood, priority was given to agricultural infrastructure before housing.
While areas for vegetable cultivation are being prepared in the project's farm section, work is also underway to install greenhouse tunnels.
Production is aimed at a market garden of about 5 acres and eight greenhouse tunnels. In the coming stages, the creation of fruit orchards and the introduction of livestock activities are also planned.
Construction of the housing units is expected to begin in early 2028. A definitive timetable for when the entire project will enter service has not yet been announced.
