Historic Syria decision from the US! Removed from the list after 47 years

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, his country's Syria"state that supports terrorism"announced that it has officially withdrawn its decision to label it as a "state that supports terrorism". The State Department also removed the jihadist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) from the U.S.'s "Specially Designated Global Terroristsreported that it has removed it from the list.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, these decisions are a response by the Syrian government under interim President Ahmed Şara (Colani) to security commitments and counterterrorism measures.

It was reported that the decision was influenced by Damascus's formal entry into the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS in November last year and by the effectiveness of operations targeting ISIS, Al Qaeda, Hezbollah, and various Iran‑backed armed groups in Syria.

U.S. officials said that removing the terrorist list designations eliminated the key legal barriers to private-sector investment in the country, thereby facilitating a broader economic recovery and aiming to reintegrate Syria into international trade networks. Syria had been added to the list during the Hafiz al‑Sabah era in 1979.
