ZZ Top's 56-year-old drummer Frank Beard lost his life at his farm in Texas at age 77. The cause of Beard's death has not yet been announced.

American rock band ZZ Top's long-time drummer Frank Beard died at age 77. According to the band's statement, Beard passed away on August 17 at his farm in Richmond, Texas, while with his family and receiving nursing home care. The cause of death has not yet been disclosed.

56-Year Music Career
Beard was the drummer of the classic lineup formed by ZZ Top's guitarist and vocalist Billy Gibbons and bassist Dusty Hill. Having joined the band at the start of its 1969 journey, Beard became one of the key elements of the group's musical identity for 56 years.
Made Its Mark on World-Famous Songs
Beard's drumming stood out in tracks such as ZZ Top's internationally acclaimed hits from the 1980s, including "Sharp Dressed Man", "Legs", and "Gimme All Your Lovin'". The band reached a wide audience with its unique style that blended blues, rock, and boogie influences.

An Important Group in Rock History
ZZ Top sold more than 50 million albums and reached the top of the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart six times. The group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004. Beard was also one of the key figures behind the band's long-running success.

Another name from the classic lineup has gone missing.
In ZZ Top's classic trio, Beard was joined by Billy Gibbons and Dusty Hill. After Hill died at age 72 in 2021, Elwood Francis took over the bass role. With Beard's death, only Gibbons remained from the band's original lineup.
He had stepped away from the stage due to health problems.
Beard had left the band's tour due to health issues he had been experiencing recently, and other drummers had filled in at some shows. A few concerts were also cancelled shortly before his death as part of ZZ Top's ongoing tour. The band is expected to continue performing after Beard.

Emotional Message from Billy Gibbons
ZZ Top's vocalist Billy Gibbons drew attention to the band's long-standing unity after Beard's death. Gibbons remembered Beard as an innovative drummer, a close friend, and an important colleague in the band's musical journey.
