A 17‑year salary scam surfaced in Germany! He received 248,000 euros without attending a single day of class.
Since 2009, the German teacher who has been receiving uninterrupted sick leave reports has been found to have worked in different professions using forged documents. Examination of his personnel file disrupted the 17‑year arrangement.

The claim that a teacher in Germany continued to receive a salary while appearing on sick leave for years has gone to court. The Duisburg Prosecutor's Office has prepared an indictment against a 62‑year‑old vocational college teacher, who has been listed as on continuous sick leave since 2009, alleging fraud and forgery.
In the indictment filed with the Duisburg High State Court, the teacher is charged with ten separate fraud cases and two forgery cases. According to prosecutors, the teacher received a total of 248,000 euros in salary from the state despite not attending work for years.
Revealed by Examination of the Scandalous Personnel Files
According to the indictment, the teacher obtained a sick report from 2009 onward for various reasons. During this period, he made no contact with the educational institution whose management and staff had changed.
It was noted that the teacher's prolonged absence from work went unnoticed due to changes in school management. The teacher's continued presence on the institution's payroll for years came to light in 2025 when the district education directorate reviewed staff personnel files.
The investigation found that the teacher continued to receive a salary despite appearing on sick leave for many years.
Worked as an alternative medicine specialist while on sick leave
The prosecutor's office argued that the teacher was physically capable of performing his duties and had submitted long-term disability reports ten times between March 2021 and March 2025. It was reported that accusations relating to the earlier period were not included in the investigation due to statute of limitations.
The indictment also alleged that the teacher worked as an alternative medicine specialist during his sick leave and had prepared forged documents to prove his professional competence. It was also alleged that the teacher used a fake diver certification.
Raid on Home, Retirement Proceedings Initiated
In March 2026, a raid was carried out on the teacher's home in Duisburg. During the raid, the teacher's digital materials were seized despite his absence from the house. In July 2026, it was reported that mandatory retirement procedures were initiated against the teacher.
Up to 10 Years in Prison on the Agenda
It is expected that the Duisburg Higher State Court will accept the indictment and the case will move to the trial stage. It was stated that if the teacher is found guilty, he could face a prison sentence ranging from 6 months to 10 years under the charges brought against him.
The charges against the teacher have not yet been finalized by a court ruling.
