IHA's Features Draw Attention
A source who spoke to ABC News, based in the United States, and requested anonymity, was cited in assessments concerning İHA made at the airport on the night of August 4.
The source asserted that the carrier system linked to İHA's structure possessed certain features that are exclusive to the systems used by the Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU) of the Russian General Staff.
It was alleged that U.S. intelligence reached this assessment as a result of the work conducted with security and intelligence units in Germany.
Explosion Did Not Occur
One of the most striking aspects of the incident was that the drone's carried explosive did not detonate.
The intelligence source argued that a disconnection in the triggering system caused the mechanism to fail, preventing a potential explosion.
Airport Closed to Flights
The drone was spotted near a Ukrainian cargo aircraft at Leipzig/Halle Airport on the night of August 4.
After the drone identified as carrying an explosive was found, the airport implemented extensive security measures. Flight operations were halted throughout the night, and an investigation into the incident was launched.
