Vice President Vance's blunder on Canada: 'It's a state', he said, then corrected immediately

U.S. Vice President JD Vance came to the spotlight with the phrase he used during his remarks about Canada. In one part of his speech, Vance used the term "state" for Canada, then shortly after corrected himself, saying it was a slip of the tongue.

"Canada is a state," Vance said, then immediately added, "Sorry, I slipped. That was truly a mistake," stepping back. However, Vance continued his criticism of Canada after that correction.

He targeted Canada's defense spending.

Vance argued that Canada was not investing enough in defense. Citing the security support provided by the U.S. as crucial for Canada, he claimed the country could be invaded by a foreign power without this protection.

The U.S. Vice President sharpened his criticism of the Ottawa administration with the words, "Canada is a country that, without investing enough in its army and the protective umbrella provided by the U.S., could be invaded by a foreign nation."

Reaction to trade policies

In Vance's remarks, commercial disputes between the two countries also occupied a prominent place. Vance criticized the customs duties and other commercial obligations imposed on goods shipped from Maine to Canada, arguing that Canada was not treating U.S. goods fairly.

Vance, who described Canada's practices as "unfair trade", said that the U.S. would continue to fight against such policies.
