Erdoğan gives gold gift to baby Mahir Selim in New York

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met with citizens waiting for him in front of the Turkish embassy in New York, where he had come to attend the 81st United Nations General Assembly and engage in various interactions. His wife, Emine Erdoğan, also accompanied him.

Security Barriers Removed

Erdoğan, who passed through John F. Kennedy International Airport en route to the Turkish embassy, chatted briefly with the crowd gathered in front of the building. At his request, the security barriers between him and the citizens were removed, and he went to the crowd to greet them.

Mahir Selim Gave a Gold Gift to the Baby

During the welcome, a family from Germany also approached Erdoğan. Erdoğan, who liked the family's 9‑month‑old baby Mahir Selim Ürker, chatted with the baby's family. The baby's father recalled that last year Mahir had been placed in Erdoğan’s lap and said that his son’s name was also Mahir Selim. During the conversation, when the baby cried in excitement, Erdoğan asked for the baby to be calmed. Afterwards, he presented the family with a gold gift for Mahir Selim.

Erdoğan held brief conversations with citizens waiting for him in front of Türkevi and had photos taken with some of them. During the welcome, it was seen that citizens carrying Turkish flags also accompanied Erdoğan.

Will Attend the UN General Assembly for the 16th time

Erdoğan will have various meetings in New York as part of the UN 81st General Assembly. The president is expected to address the General Assembly for the 16th time on September 22, when leaders will begin their speeches.
