Fed Keeps the Rate Steady: Inflation Concerns Persist in the U.S.
ABD Merkez Bankası kept the policy rate in the 3,75-4% range. The high persistence of inflation kept the possibility of a new rate hike on the agenda.

The U.S. Federal Reserve (Fed) decided to keep the policy rate unchanged in the range of 3.75%-4% at its meeting on October 28, 2026. Officials balancing the fight against inflation and economic growth want to see more economic data before taking another step. The decision was adopted by a vote of 10 to 2 in the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC).

Fed's Decision to Wait Instead of Raising Rates
In the Fed's statement, it was noted that the U.S. economy continues to grow at a strong pace, domestic consumption remains resilient, and capital investment is robust. Employment growth has progressed in line with labor force participation, and no significant change has been observed in the unemployment rate.
In contrast, the bank highlighted that inflation remains at high levels. Officials emphasized that they aim to maintain price stability and bring inflation back to the long‑term 2% target.
Two Officials Advocated a Rate Increase
Lisa D. Cook, an FOMC member, and Cleveland Fed President Beth Hammack opposed the rate decision. The two officials called for a 0.25‑point increase in the rate as part of the fight against inflation. Thus, the decision to keep rates unchanged was adopted by a vote of 10 to 2.
Inflation Above the 2% Target
In the United States, inflation rose to 3.7% on an annual basis in September. This rate remained 1.7 percentage points above the Fed's long‑term 2% target. Rising energy costs and robust consumer spending are cited as factors that make easing price pressures more difficult.
How Will the Interest Rate Decision Affect Americans?
Keeping the rate unchanged means that the costs on credit cards, auto loans, and business loans will not shift immediately due to the policy rate. However, the rates applied by banks can vary depending on market conditions.
If the Fed raises rates again in the coming months, borrowing costs could rise. In turn, higher rates could slow consumption and economic demand, helping to curb inflation.
Interest Rate Hike Expectations for the December Meeting
In markets, there is an expectation that the Fed could raise rates again at its final meeting of the year. However, the decision in October does not necessarily mean rates will be increased in December. The bank's next move will depend on the economic indicators that will be released, including inflation and employment data.
