In experiments, immune cells produced there were observed to act against brain threats without requiring input from immune centers elsewhere in the body.

Attempted Against a Deadly Brain Tumor
The most striking results of the discovery emerged from experiments conducted on glioblastoma, a disease notoriously difficult to treat.
Researchers found that mice whose immune centers beneath the skull were strengthened mounted a more effective immune response against brain tumors. They also reported that these mice lived longer.

Research is planned to investigate how these structures in the skull behave in neurological diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, where the immune system plays a role. Findings are also considered to lay groundwork for new studies on the possible role of immune mechanisms in conditions like schizophrenia.
