Election Fraud in Massachusetts: 1 Chinese in Custody
In Massachusetts, United States, a Chinese citizen was charged with creating a fake voter registration and voting in the 2024 presidential election using someone else's identity.

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced that a Chinese citizen living in Andover, Massachusetts, has been detained on charges of election fraud and immigration fraud related to the 2024 presidential elections. According to the agency’s announcement dated August 21, 2026, the suspect is accused of creating a voter registration using another Chinese citizen’s identity and submitting a ballot.
Claim of Registration Using Someone Else’s Identity
According to USCIS’s statement, the suspect allegedly created a fake voter registration using the name of another Chinese citizen living in the United States and cast a vote in the 2024 presidential election based on that registration. It was noted that the incident was uncovered during the investigation with coordination among federal authorities.

Under the Lens of the 2024 Presidential Election
At the heart of the investigation is the 2024 presidential election in the United States, where Donald Trump and Kamala Harris are competing. USCIS said the allegations concern the registration and ballot used in the election process. It was reported that the suspect is also charged with irregularities linked to the immigration process in addition to using another person’s identity.
Voting by Non-Citizens in the United States
The right to vote in federal elections in ABD belongs to ABD citizens. Therefore, immigration status and the right to vote in elections are considered separate legal matters. In the case in question, the allegation is said to stem not from the person's Chinese citizenship, but from the claim that they used another person's identity to create a voter registration and ballot.
USCIS Supports Investigation
USCIS announced that it is supporting the federal investigation related to the incident. In the agency's statement, it was noted that the investigation covers not only the alleged fake voter registration and voting, but also the dimension of immigration fraud.
It Also Sends a Message to Turkish Immigrants
Although the incident does not directly involve a Turkish citizen, it carries a striking legal dimension for immigrants living in ABD. Since individuals without citizenship status in ABD have no right to vote in federal elections, using incorrect or another person's information in voter registration and voting processes can lead to serious legal consequences.
Election Security Back on the Agenda
The investigation in Massachusetts has brought the debates over the accuracy of election records and voter identity verification in the United States back to the forefront. The federal authorities' examination of the case both in terms of the electoral process and the immigration dimension expands the scope of the investigation.
