According to police records, the incident began after a woman named Yuriko Torres listed her bracelets for sale on Facebook Marketplace.
According to reports, Doğan contacted Torres, stating that he wanted to buy the bracelets. After the pair met, Torres gave the two bracelets to the suspect so he could examine them closely.
However, it was alleged that after taking the bracelets, Doğan began running toward South Miami Avenue to flee.
Torres chased the suspect, asking people nearby for help.
The 17‑year‑old heard the cries for help.
At that time, a 17‑year‑old youth in the area, upon hearing the woman's cries for help, chased the suspect. It was reported that the youth caught up with Doğan shortly thereafter and brought him to the ground.
However, the struggle did not end there. According to police and eyewitness reports, the suspect sprayed pepper spray at the 17‑year‑old youth in an attempt to flee.
Despite being affected by pepper spray, the young man who did not abandon the suspect kept Doğan on the ground until police teams reached the scene.
It was seen that one of the people nearby helped wash the eyes of the young man affected by pepper spray with water.
The bracelets came out of the suspect's bag.
After police teams arrived at the scene, Doğan was taken into custody. It was reported that the two bracelets said to belong to Torres also came out of the suspect's bag.
Torres said the bracelets were worth thousands of dollars.
A charge of aggravated robbery was filed.
A 'grand theft' (serious theft) charge was brought against 21‑year‑old Yağız Doğan.
Officials also announced that Doğan faces similar charges over a comparable incident that occurred on 18 July.
According to WSVN 7News, Doğan paid the bail amount on Friday. However, he has not yet been released from prison because the procedures to attach an electronic monitoring device were not completed.
