American businessperson Elon Musk said that images captured via camera would be processed and transmitted to a brain implant using the system developed by Neuralink.

Under the system, the goal is to stimulate neurons in the visual cortex via electrodes, thereby creating an artificial visual perception.

Musk said that the first vision devices could be applied to humans within the next six to twelve months, adding that the aim is to transmit signals to the visual cortex of people who are born completely blind.

Neuralink’s Blindsight technology

The technology dubbed Blindsight by Neuralink aims to deliver visual information directly to the brain’s visual cortex without using eyes or optic nerves.

Musk said that the first trials would be an initial stage in the technology’s development. The safety and efficacy of applications on humans must be evaluated through clinical processes.
