New Jersey Underwater: Roads Closed, Homes Flooded!

A powerful nor'easter that took hold of the northeastern United States affected life in New Jersey. With heavy rainfall, some roads were submerged while homes were flooded. It was reported that more than 70,000 electricity customers in the area were without power.

Roads in New Jersey Went Underwater

The heavy rainfall brought by the storm caused flooding especially along New Jersey's coast. In some areas roads were completely covered with water, while vehicles struggled to move and water entered some homes, reports said.

Conditions worsened along the Jersey Shore as well. While footage showed vehicles submerged around Point Pleasant, voluntary evacuations were ordered in some parts of Manasquan. In Sea Bright, coastal flooding and shoreline erosion occurred.

State of Emergency Declared in 8 Counties

New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill declared a state of emergency in the counties of Atlantic, Burlington, Cape May, Cumberland, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean, and Salem due to the storm's effects.

Officials warned residents in the area to be careful of the risk of strong winds, coastal flooding, and shoreline erosion alongside heavy rainfall.

Wind speed could reach 97 kilometres per hour.

According to the emergency order issued by the New Jersey administration, wind speed is expected to reach 30 to 40 miles per hour in some areas, and up to 60 miles, or about 97 kilometres, during strong gusts.

It is stated that rainfall amounts across the state could reach 1 to 3 inches, and in coastal areas up to 3 to 4 inches in some places. Wave heights in the sea are also expected to be around 8 to 20 feet.

More than 70,000 subscribers without electricity.

The storm’s impact was not limited to New Jersey. It was reported that more than 70,000 electricity subscribers in the northeastern United States were without power. The storm is expected to continue affecting areas beyond New Jersey, including Delaware and surrounding regions.

Officials, while urging those living in coastal areas to closely monitor flood and strong wind warnings, called for preparedness against new risks the storm could create in the coming hours.
