In Berkeley Township in New Jersey's Ocean County, an 11‑year‑old girl lost her life in a collision between an electric off‑road motorcycle and a pickup truck. A boy of the same age was also injured in the crash. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon.

Berkeley Township police went to the area around 12:45 p.m. on Wednesday after receiving a report that a vehicle and an electric off‑road motorcycle had collided near Moorage Avenue and Sherman Avenue. Officials said an investigation into the crash is underway.

According to a statement from the Ocean County District Attorney's Office, an 11‑year‑old boy was operating the electric off‑road motorcycle, and an 11‑year‑old girl was a passenger. While the motorcycle was heading north on Sherman Avenue, it did not stop at the stop sign at the intersection. It then entered the intersection where a Ford F‑250 pickup truck was traveling west on Moorage Avenue.
After the collision, the injured were taken to hospital.
Officials said the electric motorcycle struck the driver's side door of the pickup. After the accident, the 11‑year‑old boy who was injured was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. It was reported that the child, who was treated at the hospital, was later discharged.
11‑year‑old girl not rescued
The 11‑year‑old girl who was a passenger on the electric motorcycle was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River. Officials said the child lost her life at the hospital due to injuries sustained in the crash.
No signs of alcohol in pickup driver
It was reported that the driver of the Ford F‑250 involved in the crash did not leave the scene and remained in the area after the accident. Officials said no signs of impairment or alcohol were found in the driver. Investigation continues to determine the exact cause of the crash.
