NYPD Detective Who Was Stabbed 10 Times in New York Bronx Speaks
During a robbery attempt in New York, detective Jose Mercedes, who was stabbed 10 times, emerged publicly for the first time after the horror he experienced.

Detective Jose Mercedes, who serves in the New York Police Department (NYPD) in the United States, spoke for the first time after the knife attack he endured in the Bronx. On Tuesday, October 13, Mercedes, thanking those who helped him survive, said, 'First, I want to thank God. I was given a second chance at life.'
Attacked on His Day Off
The incident occurred on October 2 in the Bronx at the intersection of East 206th Street and Rochambeau Avenue. While on his day off, Mercedes said the attackers stabbed him 10 times.
The detective, noting that what he experienced was a huge shock for him, said, 'I was on vacation, it was my day off, and I didn't expect something like this. It was truly a frightening scene for me. I've been investigating crimes for a long time, but that day I just wanted to enjoy my holiday and free time.'

He Said He Was a Police Officer, but the Attackers Didn't Stop
Mercedes told the attackers that he was a police officer in both English and Spanish, but that did not stop them. The detective said, 'They didn't even care about it.'
Police are evaluating that the incident could have been an attempted robbery aimed at the victim's gold chain. It was reported that the suspects fled on an electric bike, leaving the heavily injured Mercedes on the road in blood.
Two Suspects Arrested in Massachusetts
D’Angelo Caraballo and Sneider Mejia, linked to the attack, were arrested in Massachusetts last week. The two suspects face charges of attempted murder. Mercedes said she is confident that justice will be served.
I Was Almost Dead
Mercedes, who said she was aware of losing a lot of blood in the attack, expressed her gratitude to those who helped her. The detective, thanking the civilian who called 911 and the first responders who arrived at the scene, said, 'I want to thank everyone who helped me stand today. I was almost dead. I will always be grateful to the people who saved my life that day.'
Treatment Ongoing
After the attack, Mercedes, who entered the recovery process, said she was working to regain the mobility of one of her arms. The detective's remarks revealed the physical difficulties she experienced after the attack and her gratitude towards those who helped her.
