Two suspects wanted in the New York attack were arrested in Massachusetts.
The two suspects alleged to have stabbed an off‑duty NYPD detective in the Bronx were taken into custody in Massachusetts after a five‑day pursuit.

Two suspects wanted in connection with a knife attack on NYPD detective Jose Mercedes, who was off duty in New York, were arrested in the state of Massachusetts. D'Angelo Caraballo and Sneider Mejia were taken into custody in the city of Lynn in a joint operation by NYPD detectives and U.S. Marshals Service teams.
They Hid in a House Basement
According to officials, Caraballo and Mejia were found hiding in a house basement during the pursuit. After determining that the two suspects had left together from the New York area, the U.S. Marshals Service traced their trail to Massachusetts. The operation was also supported by the Massachusetts State Police and Lynn Police.
7 Knife Strikes on Detective
The 33‑year‑old detective Jose Mercedes was attacked during a robbery attempt in the Bronx on Friday. Police said the suspects entered Mercedes's vehicle and then approached the detective, at which point the attack occurred. It was reported that Mercedes was stabbed seven times in various parts of his body.
Attackers Escaped on E‑Bikes
According to witnesses, Mercedes tried to chase the suspects after the attack but collapsed to the ground shortly thereafter. Police said two people left the scene on an electric bike. Investigating teams are assessing that the attack could have been an attempt to steal the detective's gold chain.

Detective Discharged from Hospital
After the attack, Mercedes was taken to Jacobi Medical Center and, after her treatment was completed, she was discharged from the hospital on Monday. It was reported that the detective was met by colleagues, family and close ones upon discharge.
Suspects Charged with Attempted Murder
Police announced that Caraballo and Mejia would face various charges, including attempted murder. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security said the two suspects are citizens of the Dominican Republic and have no legal status in the United States.

Suspects to Be Returned to New York
It was announced that the transfer of the two suspects, who were under the supervision of the Massachusetts State Police, to New York has begun. The U.S. Marshals Service reported that, following the incident, the multi-state operation resulted in the suspects being apprehended without any new confrontation or injury.
A Determined Message from the NYPD
NYPD announced that the organization would not abandon the pursuit of those responsible for the attack in the investigation carried out after the assault. Detectives Endowment Association president Scott Munro also said he had no doubt that the suspects would be found and brought to justice.
