In the United States, a knife fight broke out at the Valhalla campus of Westchester Community College in Westchester County, New York, on Wednesday at noon. Police said that two people were injured and two were taken into custody after the incident. Westchester County Police received a flood of 911 calls shortly after 12:30 p.m. reporting that two people had been stabbed on campus. The incident occurred at the campus located at 75 Grasslands Road.

One of the injured is in critical condition.

Authorities initially announced that three people had been stabbed in the incident. However, a later update corrected the number of injured to two. Both wounded were transported to a nearby hospital. Police said that one of the injured was in serious condition.

Two people were taken into custody.

Two people connected to the incident were taken into custody by police. Officials said that both were transported to another hospital for treatment, though they were not injured. Police teams found a knife at the scene. While the wide grassy area on campus was cordoned off with a security strip, the investigation was launched.

Students tried to stop the fight.

It was reported that some students on campus intervened in the fight and tried to separate the parties. Footage showed two young men fighting, while people nearby attempted to stop the incident. Among the students who witnessed the altercation, 19‑year‑old Paula Selby said she went to the area to help during the incident. Some students said they were greatly surprised by what happened.

Westchester County Police asked anyone with information about the incident or with footage of the event to contact authorities at 914‑864‑7701.

An investigation into the incident at Westchester Community College, located about 26 miles north of New York City, is ongoing.
