While New York, one of the United States' largest metropolises, is known for its skyscrapers, luxury shops, and bustling streets, a completely different scene unfolds in some of the city's streets. On Canal Street, near Manhattan's Chinatown, the sale of items such as bags and watches on laid‑out blankets draws attention.

Engin Çevik, known on social media as “amerikalirehber,” explained the street vendors and their sales methods in a video he filmed in the area. While describing the scene he encountered in downtown New York with astonishment, Çevik noted that the items displayed on the ground were not from original brands but were counterfeit.

SALES ON LAYED‑OUT BLANKETS IN DOWNTOWN NEW YORK

Filming on Canal Street, Çevik drew attention to the street's crowds and the activities of the street vendors. Çevik noted that bags and watches resembling luxury brand products were displayed on the streets, and he said the images in the area differed from New York's usual tourist façade.

Çevik reported that on the street just outside Chinatown, some vendors sold their products directly on the blankets laid out on the ground.

THEY ARE COLLECTING THEIR PRODUCTS UNDER POLICE SURVEILLANCE AND MOVING AWAY

In the video, Çevik described how street vendors quickly gathered their goods during a police intervention and fled the area, saying that sales were therefore interrupted from time to time.

Çevik noted that when the police arrived, vendors gathered their blankets and fled, thereby revealing how street trade is conducted.

ALLEGATION OF SALES BY CATALOG METHOD

According to Çevik, some vendors instead of displaying their products openly, roam around with catalogs in hand. It was alleged that these individuals, directing potential customers through catalogs, try to make sales by inviting buyers to different locations such as apartment entrances.

Footage recorded on Canal Street, one of New York’s tourist spots, not only highlighted the city’s bustling street life but also brought counterfeit product trade back into the spotlight.
