Seismic activity continues in the Pacific Ring of Fire.

Recent consecutive earthquakes in the Pacific Ring of Fire have drawn attention. Experts stated that the increasing seismic activity is in line with the region’s natural structure, but that active fault lines will continue to be closely monitored.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), numerous earthquakes of magnitudes between 5.5 and 7.5 were recorded along the Pacific Ring of Fire in recent days, including in Japan, the Philippines, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and the waters off northern California, USA.

The recorded earthquakes included a 6.9 magnitude tremor near Japan, a 6.5 magnitude tremor in the Philippines, a 5.7 magnitude tremor in the waters off Indonesia, a 5.6 magnitude tremor in the waters off northern California, and a 5.5 magnitude tremor in Papua New Guinea.

The majority of earthquakes worldwide occur in this zone.

Experts say the Pacific Ring of Fire is home to approximately 75 percent of the world’s active volcanoes.

The movement of many tectonic plates, including the Pacific Plate, where they intersect, accounts for approximately 90 percent of the world’s earthquakes.

USGS stated that while the recent earthquake activity is noteworthy, it is consistent with the region’s natural seismic activity and that the current data does not indicate an unusual geological process.

The Cascadia region is being closely monitored.

Scientists say the Cascadia Subduction Zone in northwestern USA is among the closely monitored areas.

Experts assess that this fault line has the potential to generate a major earthquake and tsunami, possibly reaching a magnitude of 9, while noting that active fault lines are continuously monitored.
