Fenerbahçe President Sadettin Saran received a prison sentence in an illegal gambling advertising case
In a trial held in Istanbul, businessman Sadettin Saran and his brother Alan Kenan Saran were sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison and a fine for the crime of encouraging illegal gambling.
A trial at the 23rd Criminal Court in Istanbul concluded on Wednesday with a verdict being announced regarding businessman Sadettin Saran and his brother, Alan Kenan Saran.
Sadettin Saran did not attend the hearing, while his legal representatives were present in court. It was noted that the defendant’s absence prevented his final statement from being taken.
A representative from the Turkish Football Federation demanded the defendant’s punishment, while the defendant’s lawyers argued for his acquittal.
A prison sentence and a fine were imposed.
The court sentenced Sadettin Saran and Alan Kenan Saran to 2 years and 6 months in prison and a fine of 562,500 Turkish lira each, separately, on charges of ‘inciting individuals to advertise or illegally gamble through various means.’
Meanwhile, Emre Eren and Azade Zeynep Haksal, who were also on trial in the same case, received an acquittal verdict.

The investigation was launched following allegations that illegal gambling advertisements were featured in televised matches broadcast through a media group owned by Sadettin Saran.
