The Texas State Board of Education in the United States approved the new curriculum for high school social studies courses. The regulation redefines the topics students will learn in history and social studies classes.

How Will Islamic History Be Covered?

In the new curriculum, students are planned to study early Islamic history through topics such as the era of Prophet Muhammad, military campaigns, slavery, and female captives.

September 11 in the Curriculum

The program also covers topics related to the September 11, 2001 attacks, Al Qaeda, and the United States' subsequent War on Terror.

Criticized by Muslim Groups

Representatives of Muslim Americans argued that the new curriculum does not adequately reflect Islamic history. Some education experts also criticized the manner in which the selected content was prepared.

The new program also includes topics on Christianity's influence on U.S. history and culture. It is expected that students will examine the role of religion in American history.

The new social studies standards adopted by the Texas Education Board are planned to be implemented in the 2030-31 school year.
