First the “New Mexico” map, now neighboring countries… The last of Trump’s successive map shares lifted Mexico.

U.S. President Donald Trump sparked a new debate with a striking map post from his social media account. In the image he released, regions including Canada, Mexico, Greenland, and Cuba were depicted as U.S. territory, which particularly provoked a strong reaction from Mexico.

Borders Have Changed on the Map

The map Trump shared from his social media account drew attention for extending far beyond the United States' current borders. In addition to Canada and Mexico, Greenland and Cuba were also depicted as part of U.S. territory.

The post followed Trump’s recent publication of another map in which he crossed out the word “Mexico” in the name of the state of New Mexico and replaced it with “America.”

The successive map posts revived discussions about the messages Trump was sending through the borders of neighboring countries and the United States.

Mexico's Response Came Quickly

The most striking reaction to Trump's post came from Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum.

In a statement from her social‑media account, Sheinbaum emphasized her country's sovereignty, noting that Mexico is a "free, independent, and sovereign" state.

Sheinbaum, saying that Mexico is not under the protection of any foreign country now or in the future, replied with a clear message to Trump's map.

Trump's Map Shares in Focus

The latest post also brought Trump's earlier remarks about Canada and Greenland back into the conversation. This time the U.S. president displayed a vast geography—from Canada to Mexico, from Greenland to Cuba—on the same map as the United States, attracting attention on social media.

While the message Trump intended to convey with his controversial image remains a question, the sovereignty emphasis from Mexico also highlighted the diplomatic dimension of the post.
