King Oyo ascended the throne of the Tooro Kingdom at the age of three, after his father died in 1995. With that distinction, Oyo earned the title of the world's youngest reigning traditional leader, and his name was entered in the Guinness World Records.
Because he ascended the throne as a child, the kingdom was governed by a council of naips until Oyo reached the age of 18. After reaching adulthood, Oyo formally assumed his duties at a coronation ceremony and continued to serve as the kingdom's symbolic leader.

The death of King Oyo was announced by Tooro Kingdom Prime Minister Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki. While officials did not provide an official reason for the young king's death, local media reported that Oyo had been receiving treatment in the United States for some time due to health problems.
Supported Social Projects
King Oyo, despite lacking political authority, emerged as a significant cultural figure for the Tooro people. He backed efforts in education, youth support, environmental protection, and raising HIV awareness.
It was noted that Oyo, the 13th ruler of the Tooro Kingdom founded in the early 19th century, served as the cultural leader for more than 2 million people in the region.
The Kingdom's Future Is Questioned
Because Uganda is governed as a republic, traditional kings have no political authority. Nevertheless, traditional kingdoms such as Tooro hold an important place in the cultural and historical fabric of society.
After King Oyo, the future of the throne also became a point of curiosity. The kingdom's administration announced that a statement on who the new leader would be would be made following traditional procedures.
