Critical El Niño warning from experts! It could be the strongest in the last decade.

Meteorological experts warn that one of the strongest El Niño events in recent years could occur during the 2026-2027 period. It is noted that the El Niño, strengthened by rising temperatures in the Pacific Ocean, could increase weather events such as droughts, storms, and extreme heat.

Meteorologists point out that the El Niño weather phenomenon, expected to be active in 2026 and 2027, is increasingly strengthening. According to a report released by the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the likelihood of a very strong El Niño occurring in the Northern Hemisphere during autumn and winter has reached 90%.

Temperatures in the Pacific Ocean have hovered about 2 degrees above seasonal normals over the past month, raising experts' concerns. According to forecasts, El Niño by October.“Super El Niño”to reach that level, and by the end of the year it is expected to be one of the strongest cases recorded so far.

Temperatures and Extreme Weather Events May Increase

It is noted that with the strengthening of El Niño, weather conditions in different parts of the world may change significantly. While severe droughts may occur in some regions, strong storms and heavy rainfall could happen in others.

It is said that strong El Niño events can also raise global temperatures. According to experts, the rise in sea‑water temperatures in the tropical parts of the Pacific Ocean can alter atmospheric circulation and affect weather events worldwide.

"Super El Niño" Means What?

"Super El Niño"It is not an official scientific classification. The term is used to describe exceptionally strong El Niño events in which surface temperatures in the Pacific Ocean rise at least 2 degrees above normal.

Such events are rare. One of the most recent strong examples occurred in 2015-2016 and was linked to numerous extreme weather events, including powerful typhoons in the North Pacific, water shortages in Puerto Rico, and drought in Ethiopia.

How Does El Niño Form?

El Niño is a natural climate cycle that arises from sea surface temperatures in the tropical Pacific Ocean rising above normal. Under normal conditions, winds blowing from east to west carry warm waters toward the Asian side, but when those winds weaken, the warm waters move eastward.

The rise in ocean temperature can alter atmospheric circulation, leading to changes in precipitation, drought, storms, and temperature patterns across different regions of the world.

Experts, who model ocean temperatures and closely monitor them via sea buoys, note that the strength of the temperature rise is an important indicator for determining the magnitude of El Niño’s impacts.
