Linked fatigue and bruises to aging! A detail noticed by her little girl changed her life.

Maria Schenkel, a 41‑year‑old mother of two living in South Carolina, a state in the United States, linked the symptoms that appeared in her body—exhaustion that lingered even after rest—to her intense work and family responsibilities. She was diagnosed with cancer in September 2024.

Following an ultrasound, mammogram, and biopsy performed by doctors, Maria was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma in September 2024.

Invasive ductal carcinoma, the most common type of breast cancer, arises when cancer cells that begin in the milk ducts spread to surrounding breast tissue.

Faced with the diagnosis, Maria expressed great surprise, saying she had never considered the possibility of cancer. She stated that she ate healthily, exercised, and did not use tobacco or alcohol, and that there was no cancer history in her family.

She researched treatment options for months.

After the diagnosis, Maria researched the disease and treatment options in detail, and after evaluating different alternatives, she chose the treatment method she believed was most suitable for her.

After her experience, Maria emphasized that people should have more say in their own health, and said that changes occurring in the body should not be ignored.

With about two years having passed since her diagnosis, Maria wants her experience to serve as an example for people who postpone health symptoms because of a hectic pace of life.
