U.S. Department of Defense announced that B-1 bomber aircraft, which were positioned at the Royal Air Force (RAF) Fairford base in Gloucestershire, England, have been redeployed back to the United States.

Pentagon officials said that, due to operational security, the movements of the aircraft had not been shared with the public beforehand. However, in the latest statement, it was confirmed that all U.S. bomber aircraft positioned at RAF Fairford have been redeployed to their own bases in the United States.

Pentagon,“Operational security may prevent us from confirming in real time the movements of our forces, but we can now confirm that all U.S. bomber aircraft positioned at RAF Fairford have been redeployed to their own bases in the United States,” the Pentagon said.issued a clarification.

England's accusation of Iran

UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham said on Wednesday that they have 'strong evidence' that Iran is behind a suspicious plan targeting RAF Fairford.

Following Burnham's remarks, the Iranian government denied the accusations. Tehran said the allegations were baseless and called the UK's Ambassador to Tehran to the Foreign Ministry.

Suspicious Minibuses Triggered Alarm

It was reported that the incident occurred after a police report was filed about three suspicious minibuses that were said to have advanced toward the base on September 27.

After the report, armed police units were dispatched to the area. Five people were detained on suspicion of preparing a terrorist act and interrogated. The suspects were later released.

Why Are B-1s Important?

According to the Wall Street Journal's report, B‑1 bomber aircraft were withdrawn from Fairford after security concerns arose from suspected terrorist plans targeting the base.

It was noted that the aircraft in question were among the strategic elements that the British government had authorized the United States to use in operations against Iran targeting ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

The aircraft's withdrawal also brought security concerns over a U.S. air base in the United Kingdom back into focus, as well as the tension between Washington and Tehran.
