The US removed Syria from the Terror List
The US removed Syria from the list of countries supporting terrorism. Washington's decision opens the door to a new era that will strengthen Damascus's access to the international financial system and its ability to attract foreign investment.

The United States, by removing Syria from the list of "countries that support terrorism," made a significant change in its relations with the Damascus regime. The decision was recorded as the beginning of a new phase in diplomatic and economic relations between the two countries.

HTŞ Removed from the List
The U.S. Department of State, in addition to removing Syria from the list, also removed the Islamist militant organization Hezbollah (HTŞ), which played a role in the overthrow of the Bashar al‑Assad regime two years ago, from the "Global Terrorist Organization" list.
Decision Came After a 45‑Day Process
U.S. President Donald Trump had conveyed his request to remove Syria from the list to Congress on July 8. Following the announcement to Congress, a 45‑day official review period was completed, solidifying the decision, which was announced to the public by the U.S. Treasury Department on August 24.
Message of Economic Stability from Washington
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the decision would create new opportunities for the Syrian economy. Bessent said the move would open the way for additional investments that would support political and economic stability in the country.

Ahmed Şara thanks Trump
Syrian Arab Republic Transitional President Ahmed Şara also thanked U.S. President Donald Trump following the decision. Şara said that his country had been freed from a heavy burden it had carried for a long time, and that Syria was now moving toward development, reconstruction, and rebuilding.
Rubio: Path to Recovery Opens
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the decision created a new opportunity for Syria to reach recovery. Rubio said the decision removed the last major obstacles in front of private sector investments in the country, and, in addition to the Syrian economy's recovery, laid the groundwork for the country's integration into the international system.
Access to the Financial System Will Be Eased
Syrian's inclusion on the list of 'countries that support terrorism' was producing significant consequences that limited the country's access to the international financial system and the US financial system. This situation also made it harder for foreign capital to flow into the country. With the decision to remove it from the list, the aim is to broaden Syria's economic relations and increase its ability to attract foreign investment.
