The alleged seat dispute that occurred during a 10‑hour flight from Turkey to Washington, the capital of the United States, sparked widespread attention on social media. According to travel blogger Tomiko Harvey, a woman seated next to him on the plane asked him to change his seat so she could sit next to her husband. However, Harvey refused to give up his aisle seat.

She Was Moved Forward After Crying When Her Seat Request Was Denied

According to Harvey’s social media post, the woman asked for the aisle seat so she could sit next to her husband. In return, Harvey was required to move to the middle seat where her husband was seated. The blogger, who refused the request, claimed that the woman cried for about three hours.

Her Husband Sat Two Rows Ahead

According to the account in the post, the woman's husband was seated two rows ahead of her in the middle seat. It was noted that the man, who put on headphones, spent most of the journey sleeping. When Harvey asked why she was crying, she said she missed her husband and wanted to rest her head on his shoulder.

Seat‑Changing Debate on Social Media

After the incident, Harvey questioned why passengers should feel compelled to change their seats on long-haul flights. He suggested that couples traveling together reserve adjacent seats before the flight or pay an additional fee for seat selection. Images shared by Harvey on Instagram reached millions of people in a short time. The post garnered more than 4,8 million views.

Passengers Split into Two

A significant portion of social media users backed Harvey's decision not to change seats. Some users argued that passengers should not be forced to give up their preferred seats. Other users, stating that more understanding should be shown toward the woman, criticized Harvey's mocking remarks after the flight. Thus, the incident sparked a new debate about the limits of seat‑change requests on air travel.
