In the United States, more than 1,5 million pounds of meat and Walmart's canned fruits were recalled.

In the United States, two separate recall decisions were made amid food safety concerns. While Walmart's Great Value branded canned fruit cocktail was recalled due to possible high lead content, Kayem-branded meat and poultry products weighing more than 1,58 million pounds are also being collected due to unsuitable storage conditions.

Two separate recall decisions concerning food safety have come to the fore in the United States. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) under the Department of Agriculture warned consumers about certain canned fruit and ready‑to‑eat meat products.

The first recall covers the Great Value‑branded canned fruit cocktail sold in Walmart stores. Because possible high lead levels were detected in the product, consumers were urged to check the batch number, barcode, and expiration date on the cartons.

The second recall involves more than 1.58 million pounds of ready‑to‑eat meat and poultry products manufactured by Massachusetts‑based Kayem Foods Inc. It was noted that temperature fluctuations in the refrigerators where the products were stored could pose a food‑safety risk.

Walmart Recalls Canned Fruit Cocktail

Pacific Coast Producers began the recall of 1,836 cartons of 15‑ounce Great Value Fruit Cocktail on October 1, citing the possibility of high lead levels.

It was reported that products sold under Walmart’s Great Value brand were distributed to the states of Alabama, Arizona, Louisiana, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Washington, and Wyoming.

Consumers need to check the following information to identify the product covered by the recall:

Batch number:6FCB 04 C2263

UPC code:078742369570

Expiration date: September 1, 2027

Lead exposure can cause serious health problems, especially with prolonged or repeated exposure. High lead exposure is linked to kidney damage, high blood pressure, and reproductive problems in adults, while it can negatively affect brain and nervous system development in children.

Lead exposure during pregnancy can also pose a risk to the developing fetus. Therefore, it is important that products covered by the recall are not consumed.

More Than 1,58 Million Pounds of Meat Products at Risk

Kayem Foods Inc. announced on October 17 that it was recalling ready-to-eat meat and poultry products totaling more than 1,58 million pounds.

According to FSIS's statement, the company launched an investigation after a customer complaint that the products delivered on October 1 were warm. The investigation found that temperature fluctuations occurred in the storage cooler where the products were kept.

It was reported that the products subject to the recall were manufactured between March 31 and October 7, 2026, and distributed to retail stores across the United States, food service establishments, and certain sales points in Hong Kong.

Consumers are advised to check the USDA inspection mark on the product packaging. The establishment numbers listed in the recall notice are as follows:

EST. M/P 7839

P 20935A

M 9520

Because the recall covers a large number of products, decisions cannot be made solely on the brand name; the product labels and the official FSIS announcement must be examined.

FSIS classified the recall as Class I, the highest risk level. In the agency’s October 17 announcement, it was stated that no confirmed disease case linked to the recall had been reported.

What Should Consumers Do?

Bacteria harmful to health can multiply in meat and poultry products stored at improper temperatures. Consuming these products can cause symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and fever.

Foodborne illnesses can have more serious consequences for pregnant women, young children, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems.

Following officials’ warnings about the recalled products, consumers should refrain from eating them, discard them, or return them to the store where they were purchased. If the safety of the product cannot be confirmed, checking the party and organization details in the official recall notices is essential.
