Registration for 2027 health insurance has begun in the United States!
In the United States, the enrollment period for 2027 health insurance under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) began on November 1. In the new cycle, premium increases, tightened identity checks, and changes that limit some immigrants' access to financial assistance are on the agenda.

The new enrollment period closely concerns those who cannot obtain health insurance through their employer and those who work for themselves. According to KFF's assessment, an average 13% increase is expected in insurance premiums under ACA coverage. Consumers who cannot benefit from state support may feel this increase even more.
The termination of the premium subsidies expanded during the pandemic at the end of 2025 also ranks among the significant developments affecting insurance costs. After the subsidies ended, it was reported that millions of people were removed from coverage or lost their policies.
Identity Checks in Applications Are Tightening
In the new period, additional identity verification procedures will be applied to some applications. First-time applicants, those changing states, those working with a different insurance broker, and some consumers with monthly premiums of $30 or less may be subject to extra scrutiny.

Experts say these checks aim to prevent fraudulent registrations but may also create difficulties for legitimate applicants. In particular, individuals without credit history, who have moved, or who have changed their name may encounter problems during the verification process. Some applicants may be asked to provide a passport, driver's license, or immigration document.
Final Application Dates for 2027 Health Insurance
According to the HealthCare.gov calendar, a plan must be selected and the first premium paid by December 15, 2026, for coverage to begin on January 1, 2027.
The open enrollment period on the federal platform will end on January 15, 2027. Coverage for those who choose a plan between December 16, 2026, and January 15, 2027, will begin on February 1, 2027.
Application dates can vary across states on their own health‑insurance platforms. It is important for Turkish residents in the United States to check their enrollment calendar, the total cost of policies, and the assistance they may qualify for.
