Alarm in 7 U.S. States: Do Not Consume These Cheeses!

Two varieties of soft goat cheese sold in Whole Foods Market stores in the United States were recalled because of an egg protein not listed on the label. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warned that the products could pose serious and life‑threatening risks for consumers with egg allergies.

Sold in Seven States

The recall decision was taken after a Whole Foods Market employee noticed that the products were mislabeled. It was noted that the cheeses were offered in the specialty cheese aisles of 18 stores across seven states—Arizona, California, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island.

While the products were removed from store shelves, no illness cases linked to the recall have been reported to date.

Allergen Not Listed on Label Detected

According to the FDA statement, the cheeses contain a protein called “egg lysozyme” derived from egg whites. However, this allergen is not listed on the product labels.

It is stated that individuals with egg allergy or severe sensitivity may experience severe, even life‑threatening allergic reactions if they consume the cheeses in question.

Which Products Were Recalled?

The product “Fromagerie Coop de Mean Cabricharme, Raw Milk – Aged 60 Days” sold in California, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island is included in the recall. It was announced that the product’s PLU code is 57953 and that all “best‑by” dates up to and including October 7, 2026 are covered by the recall.

The cheese “Belgian Cabricharme” sold in California and Arizona is also on the list. The product, with PLU code 54670, is subject to recall for all “best‑by” dates up to and including October 7, 2026.

It was noted that both products are sliced and packaged by the pound in stores and carry Whole Foods Market weighing labels.

Warning for Those with Egg Allergy

In people with egg allergy, symptoms such as hives, swelling of the skin, runny nose, sneezing, stomach cramps, vomiting, coughing, wheezing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath can appear after consuming the product.

In more severe cases, anaphylaxis that can threaten life may develop. Individuals experiencing serious allergic reaction symptoms must seek emergency medical assistance.

What Should Purchasers Do?

Whole Foods Market has asked consumers who bought the recalled cheeses not to consume them and to discard them. Returning the product to the store is not mandatory. However, consumers can obtain a full refund by presenting a valid purchase receipt at the store where they bought the item.

The company also announced that consumers with questions about the recall can contact Whole Foods Market customer service.
