Diesel is Racing to a Record in ABD

The sharp rise in diesel prices in the United States is steadily increasing cost pressure in the transportation sector. Especially in California, pump prices are far above the national average, and drivers of large vehicles have to fill hundreds of gallons of fuel in a single trip.

In footage relayed from the field by Los Angeles correspondent Emre Özcan of ABDPost, the pump reading reaches about $1,500 as the tank of a large vehicle used in freight transport is filled.

However, even a $7 price remains below the current average across California. According to AAA data, the price per gallon of diesel statewide was about $8.42 as of September 22. A year earlier, the average price at the same time was roughly $5.16.

In the Los Angeles area, diesel prices also rose above the $8 threshold. In recent weeks, some stations in California have seen pump prices approach $10 per gallon.

What Does a $1,500 Fill Mean?

A $1,500 fill of diesel bought at $7 per gallon equates to roughly 214 gallons, or 810 liters.

When the same amount of fuel is purchased at current average prices above $8 in California, the cost rises even further. Consequently, for drivers operating trucks, trailers, and other large commercial vehicles, fuel becomes one of the most significant expense items.

High diesel prices could also affect consumers.

The problem is not limited to the fuel bill paid by drivers. California is one of the United States' most important logistics hubs. A large portion of goods shipped from the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach to various parts of the country is transported by diesel‑powered commercial vehicles.

Reuters reports that rising diesel costs are putting pressure on many sectors, from farmers to shipping companies, and that increased transportation costs could be reflected in consumer prices, especially for food.

According to the Los Angeles Times, small freight companies and family businesses are hit harder by rising fuel costs than larger firms.
