The U.S. airport ranking was unsurprising: Newark again at the bottom.
According to J.D. Power's 2025 study, the U.S. major airports with the lowest passenger satisfaction were Newark Liberty and Chicago O'Hare.

J.D. Power evaluated U.S. airports on a 1,000‑point scale based on criteria such as terminal facilities, staff experience, and ease of access.
In the category of major airports with more than 33 million annual passengers, Newark Liberty and Chicago O’Hare tied for last place with 585 points. Newark was also the lowest‑scoring airport in the 2024 study.
The study noted that the low satisfaction at Newark and O’Hare was linked to aging infrastructure, flight cancellations, and congestion.
Minneapolis received the highest score.
In the major airports category, Minneapolis‑Saint Paul topped the list with 684 points.
Among the smaller airports, Tampa International led with 715 points and Portland International followed with 708. In this category, Philadelphia International received the lowest score at 596 points.
At medium‑sized airports, Charleston International topped the list with 712 points, while Cleveland International came in last with 597 points.
J.D. Power noted that overall airport satisfaction rose in 2025 compared to 2024. It recorded that improvements in signage, terminal layout, and food‑and‑beverage areas contributed to the passenger experience.
