The wage increase rate that millions in the U.S. have been waiting for is being announced.
In the U.S., the rate of the cost‑of‑living adjustment (COLA) to be applied to Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments in 2027 will be determined after the inflation data released on Wednesday, October 14. Forecasts point to an increase of more than 3%.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) will release September inflation data on October 14 at 08:30 Eastern Time.
The Social Security Administration (SSA) is expected to announce the 2027 increase rate on the same day.
How is the increase rate calculated?
The COLA increase is determined based on the average of the consumer price index for urban wage earners (CPI‑W) for July, August, and September. The exact increase rate will be clarified in the official announcement.
When will payments rise?
Recipients of the increase—retirees, widows and orphans, and disability payments—as well as SSI beneficiaries will be affected. The new amounts are expected to be reflected in Social Security payments from January 2027 and in SSI payments from December 31, 2026 onward.
Rights holders will be able to learn their new monthly amounts from December onwards via their my Social Security online accounts and notifications sent by mail.
