According to the U.S. federal prosecutor, 43‑year‑old Jennifer Gonzalez, who lives in Fall River, is accused of organizing sham marriages between U.S. citizens and immigrants for money.

According to the allegations, each marriage was charged between $38,000 and $40,000, and an average of 18 to 20 marriages were arranged per year.

They staged the sham marriages to look real.

According to court documents, couples were photographed to make the marriages appear authentic, joint bank accounts were opened, and fake documents were presented to immigration authorities.

Officials alleged that Gonzalez invested the money she obtained in land and businesses in the Dominican Republic.

In the investigation, prosecutors also charged Erica Daniels, Cherice Alejandro, Amara Pugh, Jessica Tavares and Jaylin Hill in addition to Gonzalez.

It was announced that five suspects are under federal supervision, while the other suspect is in prison for a different crime.

SNAP assistance is also within the scope of the investigation.

Federal prosecutors also reported that Gonzalez received approximately $124,500 in SNAP food assistance from Massachusetts between 2019 and 2026.

Officials said the investigation is ongoing and that other individuals who have been found to obtain immigration benefits through sham marriages could also be examined.

Legal proceedings concerning the allegations against the suspects, whose cases have not yet been finalized by a court ruling, are continuing.
