Artificial intelligence has brought the end: Getty Images on the verge of bankruptcy
Getty Images, one of the world's leading stock photo and visual content companies, filed for bankruptcy under Chapter 11 in the United States. A heavy debt load, legal obligations, and increasing competition from AI-generated images have dragged the company into a restructuring process.

Getty Images, on October 21, filed a petition with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware, putting its previously announced financial restructuring plan into effect.
In the filing, the company's assets and liabilities were listed separately in the range of 1 to 10 billion dollars.
In the company's financial difficulties, the rise in competition in the stock‑photo market from AI‑generated images proved effective.
The planned merger with rival Shutterstock did not materialize, and high debt and legal obligations also weighed down the process.
533 million dollar restructuring plan
Under the restructuring, investors—including affiliates of the Getty family and Koch Equity Development subsidiaries—committed to providing the company with up to 533 million dollars in equity.
With the completion of the plan, the company is expected to transition to private ownership and its debt burden to be restructured. Getty Images expects the process to be completed by the end of the year.
The company will continue its operations.
A filing for bankruptcy does not mean that Getty Images will halt its operations. The company stated that it will continue to serve its customers during the restructuring process; it does not expect the activities of its employees, content contributors, and business partners to be affected.
Payments to suppliers are also planned to continue in full as part of normal operations.
