Trump Administration Cancels Over 300,000 Visas in the US
The Trump administration announced that it had cancelled more than 300,000 visas during its second presidential term. The reasons for the cancellations include crimes, fraud, and security risks.

The Trump administration, since the start of its second presidential term in January 2025, has announced that it has cancelled more than 300,000 visas. U.S. State Department officials said the cancellations have been occurring at a faster pace than in previous administrations. The statement was shared with the public on 20 October 2026.
Mora Namdar’s Warning to Visa Holders
U.S. State Department Deputy Secretary for Consular Affairs Mora Namdar, in a statement from his X account, said the number of cancellations had exceeded 300,000 and was continuing to rise. Namdar also quoted the White House's claim that the Trump administration had cancelled visas faster and in greater numbers than other administrations.
Namdar emphasized that people traveling to the U.S. on a visa must comply with the country's laws. He warned that foreigners who act contrary to the rules could lose the privilege of traveling to the U.S.
What Are the Reasons for the Cancellations?
U.S. State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott said the visa cancellations target foreigners deemed to have committed crimes, engaged in fraud, or posed a risk to national security. The reasons cited by officials included assault, driving under the influence, theft, and drug‑related offenses.

Birth Tourism and Student Visas Also Under Review
According to the Trump administration's statement dated October 20, at least 4,000 visas linked to birth tourism were among those cancelled. It was also reported that 6,000 visas belonging to foreign students alleged to have committed crimes or had ties to terrorism were cancelled.
Checks on Visa Policies Tightened
The administration expanded security reviews of visa applications while also broadening social media checks. Stricter oversight is being implemented as part of comprehensive changes to U.S. immigration policy. Human‑rights advocates, however, have criticized some measures for potentially undermining free speech and the rights of foreigners.
