Serkan Bingöl, who lives in Massachusetts in the United States, along with his wife Tuğba and their 5‑month‑old daughter Ela, moved into a new home on October 1, marking a fresh start. But the family's joy was short‑lived. After only eight days in the new house, a fire broke out in the apartment building on October 9, causing extensive damage. Nine people were forced to leave their homes because of the blaze. No casualties or injuries were reported.

Father Arrested Two Days After the Fire

After the fire, the Bingöl family endured difficult days and on October 11 faced a second blow. It was reported that they failed to notify immigration authorities in a timely manner about the address change they made on October 1. Father Serkan Bingöl was taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on the grounds of a delayed address‑change notification.

Thus, Tuğba Bingöl and her 5‑month‑old daughter Ela, who lost their home in the fire, were separated from Serkan Bingöl just two days after the incident. The successive events the family endured made it even more urgent to meet the mother’s and baby’s housing and basic needs.
