The lawsuit was filed by Art Records LLC on 26 July 2022 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.

YouTube, Google and other companies, including Şahin Özer Müzik, Avrupa Müzik, Odeon Müzik, Süper Müzik, Doğan Müzik Yapım and Pasaj Müzik, were parties to the lawsuit on allegations of copyright infringement. MÜ-YAP is also listed as a defendant in the case.

At the heart of the dispute is the ownership of certain recordings from the former Raks Müzik repertoire. In MÜ-YAP’s extraordinary general meeting minutes dated 24 November 2022, it is reported that Art Records claims rights over some recordings based on documents obtained from about 60 performing artists.

Ownership of the music recordings on YouTube is under debate.

The lawsuit raised the question of who may publish the recordings on YouTube and other digital platforms, and who will represent the copyright holders.

MÜ-YAP joined the legal process to protect its members' rights. The case also focuses on recordings linked to works by artists such as Muazzez Ersoy, Zerrin Özer, Kıraç, Yonca Evcimik, Alpay, Coşkun Sabah and Ayna.

New transactions were recorded in 2026

In publicly available court records, on 21 July 2026 there are filings of waivers from the lawsuit for some parties, and on 11 September there is a filing concerning the removal of the case's adjournment. However, these records alone do not confirm that a new interim decision was made in favor of MÜ-YAP.

Therefore, to treat the claim that a decision was made in favor of MÜ-YAP as a finalized court ruling, the text of the decision must be examined.
