A Turkish person living in the U.S. explained that people assumed we didn't have a car because we said we were walking.
Meltem Ç. Genç, a Turkish resident in the U.S., recounted that her walking children to and from school was met with surprise by those around her. She shared an example from her daily life, noting that even short distances are commonly covered by car.
“HatunkisiMeltem Ç. Genç, who posts on social media under the username “Hatunkisi”, described her experience with daily commuting habits in the United States in a video she released in January.
Genç said that the building where her family lives is opposite her daughter's preschool, and a little further ahead is her son's school, and that they walk their children to school.
“They Thought We Didn't Have a Car”
Genç explained that walking their children to school drew the attention of other parents in the area, and said that some parents assumed their families did not have a car.
Genç recounted that one day, parents who saw them in a car congratulated them, thinking they had bought a new car, but she said that her family already had a car.
The youth said that, despite their parents asking why they walked to school and noting that the building they lived in was very close to the school, they pointed out that this distance caused surprise on the opposite side.
