In Boston, a city in the U.S. state of Massachusetts, the City Council officially adopted October 29, 2026 as the Republic Day of Turkey. With the decision, the Turkish flag will be flown at City Hall Plaza in front of the Boston City Hall on the 103rd anniversary of the Republic.

The decision passed the City Council.

The decision adopted on September 30 was presented on behalf of the council by Boston City Council President Liz Breadon. The decision envisions the official recognition of Republic Day on October 29 in the city and the celebration of the founding anniversary of the Republic of Turkey.

The event coinciding with the 103rd anniversary of the Republic plans to fly the Turkish flag at City Hall Plaza.

The Republic Day tradition continues in Boston.

The recognition of October 29 as Turkey's Republic Day in Boston is not happening for the first time. The City Council had brought the issue to its agenda in 2023 due to the 100th anniversary of the Republic, and had adopted resolutions recognizing October 29 as Republic Day in 2024 and 2025.

With the new decision adopted for 2026, the continuation of this tradition in the city was secured.

Turkish Community's Cultural Activities Come to the Forefront

In Boston, the Turkish community's long‑standing cultural activities also play an important role in the recognition of Republic Day.

The New England Turkish American Culture Association (TACS‑NE), which has been active since 1964, contributes to promoting Turkish culture and strengthening cultural ties between Turkey and the United States through its events.
