New York's legendary hotel Plaza is closing: Its doors will stay closed for four years!
New York's 119-year-old icon, Plaza Hotel, is preparing to close its doors from January 2027 due to extensive restoration work. The hotel, etched into memory by the film 'Home Alone 2', is expected to reopen as early as 2031.

Located in Manhattan, opposite Central Park and one of New York’s most renowned hotels, the Plaza Hotel is preparing for a prolonged closure. The hotel, which has become one of the city’s icons with its historic character, is said to be unable to accept guests for at least four years due to extensive restoration work.
Comprehensive Restoration of the 119‑Year‑Old Historic Building
Opened in 1907, the Plaza Hotel has hosted world‑famous personalities over the years and secured its place among New York’s landmark buildings. The hotel, in particular, has etched itself into the memories of a wider audience worldwide through the film 'Home Alone 2'.
Because of the scope of the restoration to be carried out on the building’s historic exterior façade, the hotel will be unable to operate during the works.
2031 Marked as the Reopening Date
The hotel is expected to continue operations until the end of 2026, after which it will close in January 2027. While the restoration is anticipated to last at least four years, the earliest possible reopening of the Plaza Hotel is projected for 2031.
After the completion of the works, the historic hotel is expected to welcome its guests again, preserving its architectural features.
